JUST WHAT I WANTED
Top notch portasol a few bucks cheaper than a portasol. Don't know why this exact same model without the weller name costs more but it does.
The adjustment knob on the base was cracked as if it had been dropped. It's a butane item so there is no sending it back.
It works but looks bad and kinda ticks me off.
I almost purchased the other weller butane soldering iron that comes in a case and cost less, but I liked the idea of a stainless body. This soldering iron has only ONE tip and NO case. This is really not a big deal because the cases given with these types of things are typically very cheap and I end up making one out of aluminum or wood to suit me. However if you want an assortment of tips and a case do not buy this one. I have yet to price tips and as much as I need to solder this shouldn't be an issue to me. As far as quality, it is impressive. I filled the iron with gas and it fired on the first time. There is a convenient built in wire stand. And the iron gets very hot very quick. The gas window is a bit of a joke, you have to hold it up and turn it just right to see the gas. Not practical.
I hate knocking over a wired soldering irons or being restricted to cords. This should fit the bill. I have yet to solder anything but I'm guessing it will perform perfectly, if not Ill update. If you have electrical work; do some reading buy some quality tools and get the job done. I have a home theater system to finish....
P.S. even though its not a big deal to me it probably should come with other tip(s), hence the 4 *'s
Seems pretty good product i got it for mostly automotive use, i havent used it yet. When i 1st bought it i though it was a kit but i never read the description so it was my fault
very smart design with the iron stand/holder,
only 1 tip with this purchase
Weller transforms hand soldering The art of hand soldering has been around for a very, very long time, thousands of years in fact. But it was only until 1941 that a transformer based instant heating soldering method was developed by an impatient American radio repairman who was tired of sitting around waiting for his soldering gun to heat up. Carl E. Weller had to wait until after WWII ended in 1945 to get his Weller Manufacturing Company going. In 1960, the Weller Manufacturing Co. in the US patented the Magnastat soldering iron which used a magnetic component to regulate the temperature at the irons tip. In an expansion overseas beginning in 1959, the Weller ElektroWerkzeuge GmbH plant in Besigheim, Germany, along with new plants in other countries, was organized to manufacture temperature controlled irons and soldering guns for primarily industrial markets throughout Europe and the Near East. Keeping pace with the increasing complexity of our customers needs, Weller Germany became the market leader for developing and manufacturing hand soldering products worldwide. Our products were proudly emblazoned with Made in Germany, signifying innovation and reliability. Professional quality self-igniting portable butane heat tool that is ideal for service technicians for such uses as anti-static soldering, heat shrink and cutting rope. Rugged stainless steel body provides up to 125-Watts of power with adjustable temperature up to 1,076-Degrees.
