Does the job as stated. When used properly will not mess up the rubber of ball joints. For hard to remove joint, be sure you grease the thread and wear safety gloves as its main stem feels like its gonna break but i didn't.
I used this to separate the front wishbone ball joints of my 2003 Mini Cooper R50. First I tried using a selection of a half dozen different pullers that I have, and that worked for the tie rod ball joint, but not for wishbone-to-wheel carrier ball joint. For that job, this tool was critical.
The back side of the tie rod end remover has a good flat surface to hammer on, so you can force the jaws into the gap between the ball joint and the wheel carrier. It wedges a little against the brake disc dust shield. Because I hadn't bothered to remove the dust shield the tool bent the dust shield a bit, and so I had to bend the dust shield back into shape so it wouldn't rub against the brake disc, but no worries. The tie rod end remover tool's screw head isn't perfectly straight when once you pound it in there and start separating, but that's OK. It still grips well against the bottom of the old nut, which I had previously loosened and left on the end of the ball joint. You push against the old nut, not the ball joint screw threads, and then use a new locknut when put it back together. A few turns with a crescent wrench is all it took to pop the ball joint free. Good tool.
Excellent tool for removing tie rod ends--not so good for removing pittman arms from steering columns--not hefty enough. But ideal for its intended use.
The OTC 7315A tie rod end remover is a well built product. Used properly it does no damage to the rubber boots on the tie rod ends.
