The Makita 196094-2 is a plunge base set for Makita compact routers. Swapping the fixed trimmer base for this one turns a compact router into a plunge router, so you can drop the bit into the middle of a workpiece for mortises, inlays, and stopped dados rather than only working from an edge. Plunge capacity runs the full 0" to 1-3/8" with three preset depth stops and a fine adjustment, and a removable clear shield keeps chips off the cut line while you watch it.
