So, if you don't have a vice know this is going to only be one time use. The key is to use a regular ratchet and get it to start grabbing a few times around. Then, make sure you have a strong impact probably 500lbs min or large breaker bar. And make sure it's set to go left, just like the ratchet. It will come off after it stops turning itself, then you'll be back in action. Unless you have superhero gorilla strength or a vise, then you're probably going to toss it in the trash, but you saved an hour labor at a mechanic, so it's a win!
great product. I didn't need to use an impact driver to remove a 5-spline locking lug. I set and tightened the socket with a ratchet-then removed it with a 24 inch breaker bar. I used four of these-all successfully-and was unable to reuse any of them because I was unable to remove the detached locking lug from the CTA A146 socket.
Fonctionne parfaitement! Bonne grosseur pour les locknuts de Mclock sur mon Subaru Forester 2010. S'assurer d'avoir impact gun puissant.
It worked for my Ford Fusion after a tire shop over torqued the lugs when replacing a tire.
The chrome cap of the first two got stuck in the socket. I put a vice grip on the cap and put impact wrench, socket and vice grip on the floor to remove the cap.
One the second two, I just used the socket and impact wrench enough to loosen the lug nut. I hammered a flat screw driver into the caps and removed them with vice grip. Then I used a smaller socket.
On the final one; I hammered the screw driver into the cap and removed it before using the socket.
I hope I never need it again, but I'm sure keeping it, just in case.
I suspect the users that had the socket break were using breaker bars instead of an impact wrench. Different applications of force. The instructions say to use an impact wrench.
