First impressions of this drill are very good. As a welder/fabricator, I've been using it for drilling through mild and hardened steel with twist bits and hole saws. I originally purchased the CP 9789 and found that it didn't have enough torque for many steel drilling applications. Furthermore, the trigger on that drill was pretty much on/off, and on is 800 RPM. This one is made in Japan, has a decent keyed Jacobs chuck, good trigger, and is comfortable to use. It's much more robust and resistant to stalling out during standard drilling operations. My only complaint so far is the side handle. It requires an allen key to tighten and it seems like you have to remove the chuck to get the collar off. Note: the drill shipped with the chuck detached. You will need a torx T25 for the LH retaining screw. Spindle thread is 3/8-24.
The CP789HR is a super duty reversible drill that is designed for drilling, hole sawing, cylinder honing, and any other job that calls for a powerful 1/2 Inch reversible drill . Industrial quality chuck, teasing throttle for precise control, needle bearing gearing for improved durability spindle size: 3/8-24; free speed: 500 RPM; average air consumption: 7.5 cfm; air inlet thread: 1/4-Inch NPTF; minimum hose size: 3/8-Inch; sound dBA: 96; length: 8-Inch; weight: 3.25 lbs.
Features
Perfect tool for drilling, reaming, hole sawing and jobs requiring high torque
Teasing throttle for precise control
Handle exhaust reduces noise and directs air away from operator and workplace
Needle bearing gearing for improved durability
Oil free operation
