i've had a piece of **** snap ring pliers for decades, just putting up with them, too cheap to buy new, expensive pair for something i used once or twice a year.
i am really sorry to say these are a little disappointing.
i bought a harbor freight pair, didn't like them, returned them, weren't much better than my OLD crappy pair. thought i'd bite the bullet and get Channellock. a little disappointed, when i have the 90 degree pins in the pliers, one of the pins is angled ever so slightly INWARD so if i'm trying to remove a snap ring it kind of wants to slide/snap off the pins, the same exact way my old crappy snap ring pliers used to do!
i don't know how or why but it seemed when i was a kid, in shop class, you could grasp a snap ring with shap ring pliers, expand them and very carefully move the expanded snap ring ALL THE WAY DOWN THE SHAFT and very carefully grasp it with your other hand before it reached teh end oof the shaft so it didn't spring across the shop! now it seems these god danged snap ring pliers BARELY allow you to get the ring out of the groove before the ring snaps back off the pliers. where can i get truly really very high quality snap ring pliers?!
i gotta say though in the tool's defense, it is pretty cool they've come up with a mechanism that allows for opening and closing a snap ring.
