The shaft is hollow all the way through, so long bolts and threaded rod pass straight out the back instead of bottoming out. That means you drive the nut the whole way with the tool rather than spinning it down by hand first. The 12" length reaches nuts buried overhead in ductwork, hoist anchors, and ceiling-mounted hardware. Twelve-point drive seats on both 6 and 12-point fasteners, and the shank is axial press-fit for torsional strength over a one-piece socket.
