This is one heavy duty jack, that is a workhorse. If it can be lifted this jack can do it. I’ve been really impressed that it has been easily lifted everything needed on our farm.
I ordered this to replace my 3yo Pittsburgh 3 ton jack I bought from Amazon for 127$. The Pittsburgh is still going strong but I couldn't pass the opportunity of trying this Sunex.
Compared to the 72lb Pittsburgh , the Sunex looks and is heavier weighing in at 114lb. This thing was challenging to get out of the box. Like any other heavy duty jack that gets delivered the box was completely busted and the foam on the lower handle had a half inch tear. Nothing that would hinder usage though. This jack looks like it could last a really long time, even with everyday usage.
Operation is similar to the old one, it takes about the same number of pumps to get it to its highest position, return is nice and controllable.
Total height is around 20 in from the ground. Once I lifted the rear end of my Ranger with this jack, I left it there for awhile and didn't notice any sag. Needless to say, one should never get under a vehicle supported only by a jack, always use jack stands.
As far as low profile goes, this one measures in at around 2.5 in high and unlike the Pittsburgh which slopes slightly towards the handle area, this one stays low for longer. This will be useful for my W212 Mercedes which has a center front jacking point that was hard to reach with the old jack. This one fits better and I don't have to use blocks under the wheels to be able to retrieve the jack once the car is on the ground. This is a problem only on my W212 but other lower vehicles might experience this as well.
The only not so fun aspect of this jack is the price, at more than 350$ it is quite expensive. It is very well built and that justifies part of the price but some might not want to spend this much when there are other cheaper options which perform similarly. This is a case for the law of diminishing returns, you can get 90% of the jobs done with the cheaper option but for the other 10% you will spend 100% more.
Overall I appreciate the quality of this unit and will be continue testing it and post updates if necessary .
Four years ago I bought an Arcan 2-Ton Heavy Duty Low Profile Steel Jack. It only cost about $139.00 and easily handled the regular tasks assigned to it. It has taken a beating from the weather we have in Southwest Florida, showing surface rust in various places. But it still does it's job without complaint and I've never had a problem with it. It has been mostly used to jack up my large Toro Zero Radius mower so that I can sharpen the blades, replace worn out tires, and service some of the harder to reach components.
This Sunex 6603LP 3 Ton Jack was poorly packaged and delivered in a ripped and crushed box. Shame on whomever packed it and double shame on the delivery service. All pieces were included, nothing was missing, and since it is so well built nothing was broken or damaged. The box however looked like it had been to Mars and back. The jack itself was easy to assemble and works flawlessly.
I am using this Sunex unit to jack up my tool shed enough to get it properly leveled and stabilized. The amount of rain we have here eventually erodes the soil and causes the shed to slightly tilt, enough to keep the doors from closing properly. Using both jacks in tandem made it easy to get the floor leveled and concrete blocks placed to keep it that way. Now the ramp fits tightly to the doorway and the doors themselves close properly.
If you have heavier projects that need to be done around the house or in your workplace, this 3 ton Sunex will do the job for you -- once you get over the sticker shock. It is a well built durable unit that should serve your needs for many years.
This thing is heavy! My husband and I along with out teenage son all had to work together to move the box, unpack and assemble it. It's packaging was not made to handle it's weight either as the packaging was already broken in half and falling apart when it arrived to us. We're actually quite lucky the one screw for the handle (which was loose in the box) had not accidentally fallen out. Assembling was fairly easy (apart from moving the base around and out of the box) and pretty much just involves sliding the handle pieces in place and securing them. Once it was all set up it was easier to move around because of the wheels but it's still a bit of a beast compared to our previous jack which is like 1/3 of it's size. This jack however unlike our other one can lift a lot more weight.
All of the parts and everything look like a good quality and the instructions were easy to use and follow. So far it works great and has had no issues.
UPDATE: We've had this a little less than a year now and unfortunately one of the wheels busted. It's had only light use over the year so the broken wheel is really disapointing and unexpected. It's almost impossible to move without that wheel so now it's sort of stuck in an odd place in my garage till I can get a replacement.
