Makita‘s new ratchet is essentially a dual mode ratchet which allows you to install either a 1/4 or 3/8 ratchet for maximum use. The adapter mechanism uses some kind of hex socket and hog-ring retention mechanism, once they are attached, they stay attached. They switch out easily similar to an impact wrench.
The cordless ratchet maxes out at 35 feet pounds of torque with some other systems are more like 40 and 55 pounds. What it lacks in ft-lbs it makes up an RPM speeds. You can use it as a manual ratchet when the motor is not engaged, but bearing down too much force could damage the mechanism and I would not recommend using it that way. Get a ratchet!
At just over 2 pounds when you had it when you have the compact battery installed, it’s pretty light weight considering its power. It has automatic braking, but it still could but kickback. That of course is true of any powered ratchet system.
It would be a great addition to any garage.
This is a great ratchet set. It comes in a very nice, sturdy carry/storage bag. My husband loves it!
This is my 2nd Makita tool in their current lineup. My older hands have problems with gripping and turning and the smaller 1/4 and 3/8" socket wrench drives can be difficult for me. So this power version is a real improvement for me! The grip is big and comfortable and the switch is easy to operate. It's only downfall is its size, but of course you can use socket extensions etc..
The drive itself is really torque-y, very strong. I don't have a way to measure it, but it's perfectly in range for a 3/8" drive. It's mostly helpful for just spinning down the nuts and bolts without causing the strain to my hands, but is also just plain helpful for repetitive tightening.
The bag is meh. I mean, it's a plain square bag that is almost an afterthought - it doesn't really fit right but it will hold the tool, drive inserts, batteries and charger (all in a jumble).
Overall, a very nice tool with a very ingenious drive mechanism. I can almost hold it back with my hand, but put it on something that is hard to turn and the drive really works at it. For most household and hobby tasks, it will be great. Of course, the batteries are compatible with many Makita product sharing the battery/charger platform so you can build a family of tools for your home or shop. I like this one a lot.
Amazing tool. My hands are failing me and this tool picks up the slack.
Very versatile. I love how the anvils are interchangeable and how slim it is. Great for hobby workers.
