All Good.
Worked for what I needed
High quality die at a good price.
Do not buy this if you are going to do new threads on stainless steel. Get the other one.
Cross reviewing this one along with 9427...
I got both 9427 and 6527. They are both marked Hanson. There is no Irwin mark on the die itself. If you get both and took them out of the bag and now you do not know which is what, on my 9427 was a "NC" after "5/16-18", while 6527 was not. Besides that they look identical. 9427 comes in the nice package, 6527 in just a plastic bag. 9427 is more than double in price!
Is the packaging justifying the double price?
Actually the package is the minor difference. The two dies are completely different when it comes to doing the work. The cheap one went dull after cutting less than 1/4" length of thread in quality stainless steel. The expensive one cut the rest of 2" and still has life in it, although you can feel it is worn now. It will still do mild steel just fine but is a bit dull for clean threads in stainless.
So ... if you are looking to clean some threads in either regular or stainless steel, get the cheap one to save.
If you need to cut some new thread in mild steel, again get the cheap one.
If you need to cut a lot of new thread, or more importantly you need to cut new thread in stainless steel make sure you get the expensive one or you'll be sorry.
And don't forget cutting oil.
Worked great!
