You need to work the jaws to the lowest part of the spring you can grip, and there is the issue of
compressing the inner spring down over the valve stem while inserting the keepers,
but it took the brunt of torquing and twisting without ever losing grip.
To me it was easy to turn and use.
I used soft nylon rope in the cylinders to keep the valves up, which worked for better or worse.
The rope compressing and letting the valve sink slightly was the most frustrating aspect of the job.
This tool is well made and will last you more than you will want to use it!
This product worked excellent on the springs for my 351 Windsor. It is well built and never had one problem with it during the entire process.I highly recommend this tool and could not beat the price especially since it is a tool that will spend more time in a tool box than in use.
I used this tool to compress valve springs on a 2000 Windstar 3.8l engine so I could replace the seals on cylinder #5. Ford recommends a different style spring compressor (lever type that bolts to rocker mount, & expensive) but this worked just fine. Did not have any problem with the jaws slipping off the spring. Since there was not enough spring length to compress the spring completely free of the keepers, after compressing as much as possible, I had to apply a moderate downward pressure with one hand to free the keepers, and used the OEM 25466 magnetic pickup tool (also recommended) to grab the keepers. Worked quite well for me.
Much better than the over priced one at the local automobile parts/tool store thank you, fast shipping I have already told a friend about product, he wants to use it, I said nope! wait till I'm done or buy your own!
Worked simply and quickly. Easy to use and did the job even though I'm not exactly blessed with big muscles ;)
