I ordered these pliers after using an inexpensive pair that finally broke. I have crimped hundreds of rings with them and have found them to be good quality. The only thing I noticed is after a lot of use, the plastic hahdle is begining to slip around a little. I found the bent nose to be much more useful than the straight nose but either work very well.
Needless to say I know my stuff about cars and seemed to have done it all, and now I have. I was replacing seats leathers and when taking them apart I found that I needed a hog ring tool. Hmmm, didn't have it and no one local did either as it was "special order" and it was Friday afternoon to boot. So I ordered the pair based on reviews stating the curved was better, etc, etc, etc.... That is not the case for me. I actually did one seat back with the curved and the remainder with the straight, neither seemed to have an advantage over the other. Also, I am ambidextrous so I used both in both hands which rules that out. The only gripe I have is that I could not get new rings themselves at the same speed as the tool, so with that I reused the rings and it just took longer to bend them back into shape first.
All in all they worked as I had hoped and to be able to get them here overnight on Saturday for less than $40 was cool too. I think I am done with interior parts for now and will go back to fabrication where I much prefer to be. Needless to say when a friend wants me to "help"... sure.... here is the tool!
I purchased this set about 6 months ago when redoing my leather seats for my mid 80s Mustang. Pretty straightforward tool, that is well made and easy to use. If you cannot afford the set, and can only get one, get the angled plier version.
Good for that project you are working on. Not sure they are for constant use, need to pay more for better grips. Better than the extreme cheepies. The value is on par for what I paid.
Simple and effective. These can solve a lot of problems you run across, if you use your imagination. Hog rings work in many cases where nails and staples won't to fasten or contain something
