This review is for the 400 lumen version which has 350 lumen flashlight beam and a 400 lumen COB side worklight.
This is a very well-made device. Built rugged with heavy aluminum body and very bright. The worklight in addition to the torch lamp is very convenient, and both are extremely bright. Unlike some other brands, each lamp is controlled by a separate switch and there is less need to press the button multiple times to get to the desired mode. For the COB worklight, the white light can be switched to red as well as flashing red color by pressing the button second or third time. Both lamps can be dimmed by holding down their appropriate switch, though that function is not well implemented as described later. Only one lamp can be on; turning one on turns the other one off.
It contains recharbable 18850 Li-ion battery that is 2600mAh, not the cheaper one with less capacity. It is easily replaced with a screw cap. The torch lamp can stay on about 4 hours even without dimming.
It comes with a heavy-duty USB-A to micro-USB charging cable, but does not come with a charger.
The base is magnetic which is handy to attach to a magnetic surface.
All these above good points should satisfy many users, but there are several disappointing parts, especially considering the price, as follows:
1. Although it appears to be weather-proof, the USB charging port become exposed when focus ring (which is almost always needed) is used. Worse still, it is situated on top so that rain can easily get in.
2. Internal parts are not sealed either, so any water intrusion or humidity can corrode the electronics and can result in early or unexpected failure.
3. There is no hanging clip. Although the magnetic base is nice, many things are non-magnetic these days. Thus, hanging clip is often needed. Try working on car engine, for example, because many cars these days have aluminum hood and the only way to hang the light is to clip in the hood latch.
4. There is no place to attach a lanyard. Duh. A simple hole on the side would have been nice to have.
Plus, a minor complaint about the dimming circuit. It is difficult to get the desired light level for the COB light. It is slow to start dimming, yet it dims too fast after that. Also, the logic is not optimum. This one starts out at full brightness. Other brand models start out, when started with switch depressed, dimmest first and ramps out gradually. That implementation is more useful as you have a choice of starting out bright or not.
