Used it to change the struts on a Camry. I had to be careful to keep the compressor lined up with the spring, it tended to slip. It worked well for this job.
The compressor comes with attachments for other types of springs, and the sturdy case holds everything.
I'd give it 5 stars but I would be skeptical about using it on larger springs, like my pickup.
A while ago I owned a German auto repair shop. I got to buy and use quite a few spring compressors. I bought this 7550 unit because it has tools and adaptors to compress springs from the outside, as on my 1996 Plymouth Neon, and the inside, as on my 1999 Chevy Suburban. The tool is robust in every way, and with generous grease on the threads and thrust washers, handled the Neon front struts with relative ease with no signs of slipping, bending, or loosening. I would say it is one of the best (relatively) low cost portable spring compressors I have used. And the case is nice, too.
The time came where I needed to change out the Macpherson struts and I ordered this kit. It arrived promptly and the contents are exactly as pictured. The case is appropriately sized with good clasps that won't break from a few cycles of use and pieces of the kit feel robust and sturdy. I particularly like the locks to keep the spring holders in place. The threads on the bolts are big and coarse so no worries about cross threading. I was able to swap springs on the new struts with very little effort in about 90 minutes. You could probably do it in half that easily if in a hurry.
Used this spring compressor on a 07 Honda Pilot. Was a bit of a struggle to get the tool positioned correctly and it almost didn't compress the springs enough but over all it worked well. The tool didn't slip at all and the locks just helped to have peace of mind.
It worked great on the Toyota corolla I put rear struts on. Took some getting used to when u first set it up on the first one but the second one was Easer
