JUST WHAT I WANTED
Top notch portasol a few bucks cheaper than a portasol. Don't know why this exact same model without the weller name costs more but it does.
The adjustment knob on the base was cracked as if it had been dropped. It's a butane item so there is no sending it back.
It works but looks bad and kinda ticks me off.
I almost purchased the other weller butane soldering iron that comes in a case and cost less, but I liked the idea of a stainless body. This soldering iron has only ONE tip and NO case. This is really not a big deal because the cases given with these types of things are typically very cheap and I end up making one out of aluminum or wood to suit me. However if you want an assortment of tips and a case do not buy this one. I have yet to price tips and as much as I need to solder this shouldn't be an issue to me. As far as quality, it is impressive. I filled the iron with gas and it fired on the first time. There is a convenient built in wire stand. And the iron gets very hot very quick. The gas window is a bit of a joke, you have to hold it up and turn it just right to see the gas. Not practical.
I hate knocking over a wired soldering irons or being restricted to cords. This should fit the bill. I have yet to solder anything but I'm guessing it will perform perfectly, if not Ill update. If you have electrical work; do some reading buy some quality tools and get the job done. I have a home theater system to finish....
P.S. even though its not a big deal to me it probably should come with other tip(s), hence the 4 *'s
Seems pretty good product i got it for mostly automotive use, i havent used it yet. When i 1st bought it i though it was a kit but i never read the description so it was my fault
very smart design with the iron stand/holder,
only 1 tip with this purchase
