I've used an old single bulb shop light that has a hanger to attach and i've also used a halogen shop light similar to this one and they were never very bright. This hood light has 63 LEDs and is very bright. It has 2 dimmable modes. This under hood light can accommodate hood sizes that are 44" to 66" wide or any other thing you can clamp it to. It telescopes via tension so it will firmly attach to the car hood. Just be careful when taking it off because it will snap back to the original position. The clamps are padded so you don't have to worry about scratching up painted surfaces. I've used it a handful of times already and havn't had to charge it yet. Price seems a little high.
Durable and well manufactured. Definitely not a cheap piece of equipment. It’s got a great weight to it without being too heavy. Works as intended.
Handy light for engine bay work. It hooks on to my 2012 E70 X5 just fine. The light can swivel so it can be pointed straight down. The battery lasts around 3-4 hours on high. Compared to lights I typically use... this one is significantly dimmer, but still functional. It provides even lighting across the engine bay though, which is a big plus. The included charging cable is a generous length that should allow you to route it someone convenient to keep it charged while in use.
I have a large craftsman tool chest with flip top lid, I have this attached to that lid for storage so it lights up my entire tool chest, plus keeps the light out of the way. When I'm working on a car I can easily hook this onto the car hood to light up the engine compartment, when I was working in my attic I brought this with me because it is a super bright light. This has so many uses besides just under the hood and I love it. A charge seems to last multiple hours easy, I haven't ha any issues out of it and have been very happy with the multi-use that I have gotten out of it. Works great for under the hood work, but also does excellent anywhere else you need lighting.
Bright...very bright...
But not to many shadows...
Easily fits the hoods and underside of our vehicles...we place it in the engine or under the car otherwise...
Charges quick or use the extra long cord if you need it uo and running and the batteries are dead...
Love it and use it daily in the garage...
