I read people's reviews on this stating that it was good for gas tube roll pins and other such 1/16" roll pins. I got REALLY tired of those stupid things bowing out with 1/16" punches, so I got this. BE WARNED: it won't fit in the holes to drive pins out, but it is GREAT for driving them in because it won't blow out the pins like 1/16" punches will.
This pin has a smaller grip diameter then the other punches I have. They fit perfectly in the access channel I have to work in. They allow me to knock out the Spring Pins on the axels for the Industrial Order Picker Machines I work on without getting stuck like other brands with larger grips. The only drawback is If you are hitting it freehand its hard to put a hard swing on it due to the shortness of the grip. For my purposes though it is absolutly perfect.
Go with a trusted name like Mayhew, save yourself the time, money and frustration. I tried to go with another manufacturer and the punches started rolling at the ends. I use mine a lot for gun manufacturing and they are a critical tool, don't skimp.
looks like very good quality. I purchased this to punch out the "nail" on pop-rivets, i think this will work fine as i have about 300 to punch out to replace the plexiglass canopy on my aircraft. Only tested the product a few times. It is too hot now +100° to do the job. Will wait for a cooler day.
I was worried at first, because the thin shaft on this punch is fairly long.
However, when I hit it hard enough, it worked just fine. Worth the price. Specifically designed for rolled/spring pins
